We Already Spend the Most
Berkeley has the third highest tax rate in the county and spending per resident is more than double neighboring cities, yet essential infrastructure ranks near the bottom. According to the State Controller, among thirty California cities with a comparable population, Berkeley ranks 3rd in spending per resident. Despite this high level of spending per resident our city's finaincal liabilites are in excess of $2 billion and growing.

Home buyers already finance the majority of spending. As City Council endeavors to expand borrowing, home buyers will be required to pay an even larger share. These continued increases are pushing residents beyond their means.
